The need to be inspired.

It’s hard not to fall into the trap of “fear of failure” in this marketplace. And believe you me, I am one of those people as well. So how do we stay inspired?

1. Play.
Look around you for things and people you admire. Do something new “just because”.

2. Get out of your comfort zone.
Now is not the time to be doing all of the same things you’ve always been doing. Use this time to grow and evolve. When things do finally turn around don’t be surprised to see that business has changed. It has to.

3. Hang with the kids.
This is some of the best research into what the future holds that’s available. It’ll probably scare you, but that’s ok. Watch some MTV. You can grow up, but try to never grow old.

4. Keep a big perspective.
The world is a really big place. You’ll find inspiration in really diverse places. Me? I really love to spend time on www.current.com and on Current TV as well. Really great stuff that comes from everyday people. This is good.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask.
It seems that everyone is afraid of everything right now. Fear is not the answer, it’s the inhibitor of growth and opportunity. On the other hand, don’t be foolish. Take extremely calculated risks and be prepared to make immediate adjustments. Don’t fear. Explore. Ask questions and don’t fear the answer. Instead look at the answers as an opportunity to grow. You might be surprised where opportunity comes.

One of the very smart people on our advisory board said something to me the other day that really inspired and challenged me. He said “Nothing breeds success like success”. No, really think about that statement. Little successes build on themselves. With every little success confidence builds, people notice and more opportunity presents itself.

So prepare and believe in the little successes. No matter how little every one is a gift and a step towards bigger success. Believe in success. No one else will do it for you.
